Peak Families,

Due to our early arrival of winter over the past day and continued cold temps through Thursday, we have made the following changes to Eeek at Peak Fun Run & our Halloween festivities:

*The Eeek at Peak is tentatively rescheduled for next Friday 11/8 in hopes that the field will be dry and students will be able to run outside.

*Our annual "Trick-or-Treat street" and new Haunted House will be moved to this Thursday on Halloween from 3:30-4:20, with normal pick up time (both inside).

*You are also welcomed to join your student for the school wide costume parade starting at 2:30 and classroom parties starting at 3:00. Please let teachers know if you plan to join, healthy snacks are encouraged, and please do not bring any food with peanuts as we have students with severe allergies.

There is continued snow in the forecast overnight, so please pay attention to any JeffCO messages in the morning. I believe we will have school, however drive safe, and remember we do not count any tardies during days with inclement weather.

Make it a great day!

Sincerely,

Mr. Tim Carlin

Peak Moments:
“The Muiral Project”

Based on one of the world’s greatest wilderness advocates John Muir, each of our grade levels have a Colorado environment theme.  To engage students in their environment, students were challenged to create an artistic “muiral” to display outside of their classroom.  The process involved students learning about John Muir, wilderness, the details of their environment, multiple cycles of critique, and a final drafting process with a variety of artistic mediums.  Each muiral is truly a masterpiece and the most exciting part was announcing to students that we would take them to the exact location of their Muiral!  This project has helped establish a strong CREW culture where students have the Courage to take on challenges, Respect for their community (and environment), Empathy for other people, and the ability to create of high quality Work!  Below is a picture collection from some Peak Moments throughout our week as we made learning come alive on our first field experiences:

5th Grade

5th grade students hiked 4 miles to a 12,000 ft. summit of Chief Mountain!  They also visited Summit Lake and the Alpine environment of their Muiral.

4th Grade

4th grade students hiked through the beautiful geology area of Red Rocks!  They also visited Canyonland style environment of their Muiral.

3rd Grade

3th grade students hiked right out our front doors to visit beautiful Clear Creek off the clear creek recreational path!  They also visited Riparian style environment of their Muiral.

2nd Grade

2nd grade students traveled up the Mount Evans valley to 11,000 ft to visit the Mount Goliath Nature Center!  There was cheering the entire ride, including “We Love The Mountains!” & “Best Day Ever”, it was one of the most positive moments of my entire outdoor educational career.  They also visited Sub Alpine style environment of their Muiral and loved becoming Junior Rangers!

1st Grade

1st grade students traveled to Lookout Mountain Nature Center and learned a about snakes and other animals that live in their Montane Forest environment. They also hiked around Lookout Mountain to explore a Montane style environment of their Muiral.
