My name is Jamie Blackburn and I am the Social-Emotional Learning Specialist (SELS) at Peak and Counselor Corps Grant Manager for Jeffco. I previously worked as a high school counselor, science teacher, outdoor educator, and yoga instructor. In my free time, I love going mountain biking, snowboarding, exploring new places, and spending time in the mountains with my family and our dog, June. I love working at Peak with this welcoming community and incredible kids. If you ever have questions, need support, or want to learn more about Social-Emotional Learning/CREW at Peak feel free to contact me at [email protected]
- Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) helps students acquire and apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
- Social and emotional skill building can have a positive impact on school climate, improve academic performance, and prevent or reduce negative behavior and emotional distress- CASEL (The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning).
- Myself and teachers provide evidence-based direct SEL lessons in each classroom aligned with CREW values to support Peak students and positive school culture.
- Social-emotional learning also occurs at Peak through project-based learning during CREW time, including Portraits of Respect and Better World Day.
